Trekking the Jungle
One day of jungle trails, hidden waterfalls, and local knowledge.
Step away from the familiar and discover the natural beauty of Mondulkiri on foot.
Together with a local Bunong guide from Putang Village, we explore the jungle, pass through traditional mountain rice fields, and follow paths leading to beautiful waterfalls hidden among the trees.
This is an opportunity to experience the forest at a slower pace, discover the plants and wildlife that inhabit it, and learn about the land through the knowledge of the people who have lived here for generations.
Keep your eyes open as you walk. You may spot monkeys, birds, and other signs of life in the forest. Sometimes, the most memorable moments are the quiet ones — listening to the birds, feeling the cool air beneath the trees, or taking a refreshing break beside a waterfall.
The Journey
- One-day jungle trek
- Three waterfalls
- Local English-speaking Bunong guide
- Lunch and drinks included
- Approximately six hours of walking
Difficulty: This trek involves approximately six hours of walking on uneven jungle trails and is best suited to visitors with moderate fitness.
Starting in Putang Village
Our trek begins in Putang Village, home to the Bunong community. From here, we head towards the jungle and the mountain rice fields known locally as Ote, where traditional farming takes place in a landscape shaped by the seasons and the availability of water.
First Stop: Leng Ret Waterfall
After approximately two hours of trekking, we reach Leng Ret Waterfall, with a bat cave nearby.
We take a break to rest, enjoy the surroundings, and appreciate the beauty of this secluded natural setting. Surrounded by tall trees and the sounds of birds, the waterfall offers a refreshing moment in the heart of the jungle. Depending on conditions, you may be able to enjoy a cool shower beneath the falls.
Discover Leng Oung and Leng Khoen Waterfalls
Our journey continues towards two more waterfalls: Leng Oung, a smaller waterfall with a natural pool, and Leng Khoen, a larger waterfall.
Here, we take a longer break to enjoy a freshly prepared lunch cooked in bamboo by traditional methods. Relax beside the water, take in the scenery, or enjoy a swim where conditions are safe.
For those who enjoy a little adventure, there may also be an opportunity to jump into the water from a suitable spot, depending on water levels and local safety advice.
Returning Through the Jungle
After our waterfall break, we make our way back to Putang Village along a different route, discovering more of the surrounding landscape as we go.
Back in the village, you will have an opportunity to learn more about local life and meet Bunong farmers. Discover how rice is cultivated in the mountain fields and how traditional farming practices adapt to the local environment.
We expect to finish the trek at approximately 4 PM before returning to Senmonorom.

Ethical Trekking: Exploring with Respect
We believe that exploring the jungle should also mean respecting the people and environment that make this experience possible.
Our treks are guided by local Bunong people who share their knowledge of the forest, the land, and traditional ways of life. By working with local guides, we help create opportunities for community members to earn an income while sharing their knowledge and connection to their home.
We encourage visitors to approach the forest and the village with curiosity and respect, leaving nature undisturbed and appreciating the culture without expecting it to change for tourism.
Your visit is more than a walk through the jungle. It is an opportunity to learn from the local community and experience Mondulkiri through the eyes of the people who know it best.
